Completing an internship (stage) in France is heavily regulated by French labor law. Unlike many countries where internships operate as informal short-term employment, France treats them strictly as academic training programs.

Important for Graduates: Because a university signature is required, recent graduates who are no longer enrolled in a university cannot get a Convention de Stage. If you have already graduated, companies must hire you on a standard employment contract (CDD or CDI) or a specialized training contract instead.
French law provides robust protections and benefits for interns:
Mandatory Minimum Stipend: If an internship lasts longer than 2 consecutive months (more than 44 working days), the employer is legally required to pay a monthly allowance (gratification). The statutory minimum rate is €4.35 per hour (approx. €650–€700 per month for full-time 35-hour weeks).
Duration Cap: An internship at the same host company cannot exceed 6 months (924 hours) per academic year.
Employee Benefits: Interns are entitled to the same meal perks as full-time staff (canteen access or 50% coverage of meal vouchers / Tickets Restaurant) and 50% reimbursement for local public transit passes (e.g., Navigo in Paris).
Working Hours: Interns adhere to standard French working limits (maximum 35 hours per week).
Students from all countries can participate in 6‑month structured internships with renowned hospitality companies in France.
Benefits: Housing, meals per shift, flight tickets, monthly stipends (€300–€800).
Fields: Culinary arts, Guest Services, Hospitality Operations.
Outcome: Enhance culinary and service expertise, experience French culture, and strengthen career opportunities in Europe.
